A new challenge

So 2015 is fast approaching, and I find myself, once again, popping a frozen pizza in the oven.  Life is difficult, complicated and busy leading all too often to takeaways and cheap processed nonsense.

I am determined, We will go 100 days of "real" food.

Now, how do I define "real" food.  Hmmm, that is tricky.  I like the idea of wholegrains, and will make every effort to include more, but I am catering for 2 under 5, a picky husband, and all on a budget.  I sweepingly stated to my husband that there was to be "no more processed food" (as I shoved another celebration into my gob).  But as I thought about this I realised how ridiculous it is to say that.  So many things are "processed".  Even milk is pasturised.  Butter,  cheese,   yoghurt, bread.  All are processed to one degree or another.

So the very wobbly line I plan on walking down is this:  3 home cooked meals a day, using ingredients sourced as responsibly as possible.  Fruit and veg from the organic box or allotment, as many wholegrains as I can, and no preprepared meals, snacks or treats for 100 days.  300 meals.  Starting on 1st January 2015.

So no pressure then.

I have many tools at my disposal.  A breadmaker, a yoghurt maker, a slow cooker, a pressure cooker 4 hobs and an oven.

In preparation for this I have had a reasonably good day today.  We are still in Christmas mode, and had run out of bread, so breakfast was homemade biscuits (bad mother moment again!!!), home made soup for lunch, and a campfire stew for dinner.

Campfire stew is easy.  The last of the Christmas gammon, an onion, 2 tins of chopped tomatoes, a tin of cannilini beans, worchestershire sauce, garlic, a spoon of sugar, some salt and pepper.  Bung it all in the slow cooker,  on low, for 5 hours.  Delish!!

The bread is out of the breadmaker for tomorrow.  It is going well, but the countdown doesn't begin until Thursday.  I have so much chocolate to eat between now and then!!!.  Wish me luck.  xxx
